Stronghold Kingdoms is a free-to-play medieval massively multiplayer online real-time strategy (MMORTS) game, widely regarded as the world’s first castle MMO. Launched on 17 October 2012 (with later ports to Mac in 2015, iOS and Android in 2017), it is the online chapter of the long-running Stronghold series. Players step into the role of medieval lords on a persistent shared world map, building and fortifying castles, managing villages, researching technologies, recruiting armies, and expanding empires through conquest or diplomacy.Gameplay blends deep city-building, grand strategy, and real-time PvP warfare. The free-to-play model includes optional Crowns purchases for cosmetic and convenience boosts, plus regular events and new server launches that keep the community active.Originally a browser game that evolved into full cross-platform support, Stronghold Kingdoms retains the classic Stronghold charm—resource management, castle customization, and siege warfare—while adding MMO persistence and massive-scale multiplayer rivalries. Development started in 2007 by a small team, moved to open beta in 2010, and released after nearly two years of testing.
